Meet Carrie ☺️. She gives me serious Sex and the City vibes.

I have finally jumped on the bandwagon and made the Sicily Slip Dress pattern from Sewing Patterns By Masin. It seems like everyone on Instagram is obsessed with this pattern, and I now understand why…it’s beautiful! The cowl neck is flattering and sexy without being too much. I hacked the original dress pattern and shortened it to create a cami. I then paired the cami with McCall’s M7931; which is a bias cut skirt. I’m also a big fan of this super simple skirt and will be making it again, I’m sure. I originally wanted a slip dress (and I still plan on making one), but also wanted a cami made from this fabric, which is a beautiful satin charmeuse in the color “spice” from Joann Fabrics. Plus I figured I’d get more wear out of a 2 piece.

This is my first time making anything cut on the bias and I LOVE the results. Bias cut garments use a lot more fabric, but they lay beautifully on the body. It also means you can make close fitting skirts with woven fabric without adding any darts (yay! For no darts!).

Patterns: Sicily Slip Dress From Sewing By Masin + McCall’s M7931

Fabric: Satin Charmeuse from Joann Fabrics. The color is “spice”.

Challenges/modifications: I shortened the Sicily Slip Dress pattern to make it a cami instead of a dress. For the skirt, I made view B but ended up shortening it by about 2 inches so it would end just above the knee. I also used a wide ribbon for the facing of the skirt instead of the facing pieces that came with the pattern.

Sewing Difficulty: 2/4 🧵🧵 Neither of these garments were difficult to sew, but fabric cut on the bias can stretch and warp quickly while you are working with it. The pattern for the Sicily Slip Dress comes with some excellent tips for working with bias cut fabric and Mimi G has a Sew Along on YouTube for McCall’s M7931 that was also really helpful.
