Sewing Pattern Review: Sicily Slip Dress and Vogue V1684 Wrap Skirt

I wanted to make an outfit for a wedding that I attended in August and this combination did not disappoint!

For those that were following along with my stories on instagram, I was all over the place with this outfit lol I was supposed to make an entirely different dress with entirely different fabric, but ran out of time and this outfit came together much more quickly than my other planned project would have. I ended up loving this outfit! Sometimes you just have to roll with the flow and things turn out better than you planned.

The skirt is Vogue V1684 . I was a little intimidated to make the front wrap portion of this skirt, but it was a LOT easier to make than it looks and came together really quickly. The front consists of two long pleats and one dart to gather the fabric together on the side.

As for modifications, the only major change that I made was shortening it by about 4 inches from midi length to knee-length. I shortened the skirt along the shorten/lengthen lines of the pattern. When you do that, you do have to re-draft the curved portion of the split for the inner wrap piece. So I recommend tracing this piece out and playing with the curve until you get it how you would like it. If you don’t want much leg exposure at all after you shorten it, just eliminate the curve of the inner wrap and make it a straight line or make the curve less arched.

For the lining of the dress I wanted to use a contrasting fabric, so I used a gold crushed satin fabric. So that you could see more of the lining, I tacked back the front panel of the skirt with a couple of hand stitches.

The top is the Sicily Slip Dress pattern, cut off at the hip. I have made this pattern before and it’s one of my favorites.
