Today’s post is all about this masterpiece of a maxi dress that you see here, who has affectionately been named Suzy. Why is Suzy a masterpiece, you ask? Because unlike most of the things that I make, Suzy is self-drafted! That’s right, no patterns were used in the making of this garment.
I usually stray away from self-drafting because of one main reason: Math. Self-drafting usually involves lots and lots of math. And it’s just not fun for someone, such as myself, who isn’t very good at math.
The great thing about this dress is that the pieces are all very simple shapes and there were very few pieces, so minimal math was involved. I had intended to post more about how I drafted the pattern pieces, but I wanted to include a video that shows how to put the whole thing together and it was taking much longer to make the video in iMovie than I anticipated…maybe even harder than all of the math that I had to do to draft the pieces lol! So stay tuned for some instructions and a video that explains more of the process coming soon!
The inspiration piece was a dress that I found on Shein. Unfortunately, it was sold out in my size at the time that I wanted to buy it, but after scrolling through all of the pictures left in the reviews I figured I could whip up something similar with some fabric that I bought from Joann Fabrics a couple of months ago.
As usual, Chloe was close by and wanted to be included in the photoshoot.
