Well. I’ve really done it now. This is it, friends. The outfit I plan on wearing when my rich husband dies and leaves me millions $$$. A leopard printed charmeuse robe set.
I made both the pants and the shorts so that I can have options. It is sooo comfortable. The fabric feels like butter against my skin. It’s a satin charmeuse that I got from Fabric.com.
The robe, pants, and shorts pattern are all McCall’s M8056. This was a great pattern. I found the directions to be pretty straight forward. My one complaint is that it suggests that you make the belt loops for the robe using thread, but it doesn’t actually tell you how to make the thread belt loops. I had to turn to YouTube for instructions on how to do that part. One reason that I selected this pattern over other similar patterns is because I wanted to try using piping as a design detail. This pattern clearly explains how to add the piping and it was much easier than I thought it would be! I might start adding piping to all kinds of projects now lol. Slip-stitching the yolk down was annoying and time consuming, but produced a really nice, professional look and was worth it.
As for modifications, I opted not to include the draw string for the pants/ shorts and just stuck with the elastic waistband because I hardly ever use the drawstring in any of my other pants. I also added pockets to the robe and made the shorts pretty short. Next time, I will add pockets to the pants instead of the robe.
The top is the Ogden Cami by True Bias. It’s become a cult favorite in the sewing community and I understand why. It’s easy to make, flowy, and a great scrap buster. I will definitely be making more of these in the future. This is actually my second time making the Ogden cami. The first time I made it, I had some odd fitting issues where it was too tight across the top of my chest (right above the pectoral area), but it fit well everywhere else. I went up a size and also made sure to clearly mark my front and back pieces so that I did not get confused and mix them up while I was sewing everything together. I think this contributed to the poor fit the first time I tried to make it. After making those couple of tweaks, it fit me much better.
